“The truth was that we enjoyed the silence, and more than that, we hungered for it” - Kevin Brockmeier, The Year of Silence
When a city begins experiencing inexplicable moments of pure silence, many of its citizens’ lives are changed forever. Before long they enact a “Silence Movement” to abolish all unnecessary sound in the city as they seek to recapture the serenity they found in the moments of natural silence. This play explores the repercussions of constantly striving for what we don't have rather than appreciating what is in front of us, and the problems that arise when a city attempts to impose Utopian ideals onto its people.
