Summer Picnic
Miniver Cheevy, child of scorn,
Grew lean while he assailed the seasons;
He wept that he was ever born,
And he had reasons.*
(He didn't know summer brings the annual Reed alumni picnic.)

Southern California chapter annual picnic
Sunday, August 3, 2008
Noon to 4 p.m.
Carlson Park, Culver City (same place as the last 10 years)
Join fellow Reedies (alumni, family, friends, and entering and returning
students) at the thirteenth-annual picnic at Carlson Park in Culver City.
Please bring your own meal. In past years, some of us brought food to
share and enjoyed the sharing. The chapter will provide beverages, ice,
cups and charcoal; the park has BBQ grills available. The park does not
allow alcohol or pets.
We are adding a new wrinkle to the picnic this year. All members of the
steering committee plan to attend, and we are planning to hold an open
forum in order to hear your ideas about chapter activities. We hope you
will come and share them.
For more information, please contact Robert Hadley '53 (310/391-1427 or BobPatHadley@aol.com) or visit
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
The picnic area is at the corner of Braddock Drive and LeBourget Avenue in Culver City, one block south of Culver Boulevard and three blocks east of Overland Avenue. Park free on adjoining streets. Note that the "two-hour parking" signs say "except Sunday," thus you don't have to worry about limiting your stay.
Thirsty Third Thursday
Share conversation and comestibles with fellow Reedies on Thirsty Third Thursday. Look for the pink table-top sign and the stuffed griffin at a pub/bar/restaurant near you. Please note, there is no Thirsty Third in June, but lots of other things are going on.
If you're curious about where other Thirsty Third Thursday events are happening, check here.
Book group
The book group meets monthly, usually on the second Sunday. All alumni
are welcome to read the book, and join the discussion. For
further information or to rsvp, call or email
Robert Hadley '53 at 310/391-1427.
