Planning Your Own Events
Every month Reedies across North America (and maybe soon elsewhere) gather to discuss, debate and drink. This event is called Thirsty Third Thursday which oddly enough happens usually on the third Thursday of each month. It started in just a couple cities, but now Thirsty Third Thursday has grown so big it requires a page of its own. Click here to see them all.
If you'd like to plan an event in your area
What you need to do:- Select event, and preferred date(picnic, potluck, trip to a park, concert),
- Select location (may be intrinsic in event) and determine what reservations might be necessary
- Write this up clearly and email to Alumni outreach committee at alumni-outreach@lists.reed.edu at least 6 weeks before event. We know this seems like a long time, but providing time for all the steps so everything gets covered really takes 6 weeks.
- Write email message for invitation (could use the same thing as above with slight modifications)
- Collect RVSPs and any money necessary
- Host event and have fun,
- Report back to the outreach committee on the success of the event, including a list of attendees.
What the alumni & parent relations office can do for you for your event:
- Send email invitation to regional invitees at least two weeks in advance. We can sometimes send printed invitation, budget and time permitting. We can sometimes send a second reminder email too depending on timing.
- List event on alumni events web page (that would be here)
- The APR office can provide some financial support, sign contracts and sometimes provide other support.
- Can provide lists of phone numbers and email addresses for contacting potential attendees for personal invitations.
If you have questions or problems, please email alumni & parent relations
