Calligraphy Scriptorium
Catalyzed by the overwhelming community and alumni response to the exhibition "Lloyd Reynolds, A Life of Forms in Art" (curated by Gay Walker ’69 and Stephanie Snyder ’91) the Cooley Gallery is offering weekly extracurricular calligraphy instruction and practice for all interested Reed students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Scriptorium is organized by Gregory MacNaughton ’89, education outreach and calligraphy-initiative coordinator of the Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery. Founded by Cooley Director Stephanie Snyder '91, the calligraphy initiative was made by possible by a generous alumni donation in honor of Lloyd J. Reynolds. Follow a variety of alumni news on social media, including ReediEnews on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. Also, check out our blog, The Riffin' Griffin, for announcements and content longer than 140 characters. Most of the regional chapter groups are on Facebook (search by local area, e.g., Bay Area, Boston, etc.).
Also, are you aware there is a private Reed discussion group on Facebook? It was launched last year by John Sheehy ’82 and already has more than 1260 alumni, parents, faculty, and staff members. The spirit of the Reed conference is well alive there with some of the meatiest, most thought-provoking posts online. All Reedies are welcome. Submit a request to join.
With 2230+ members, the Reed College Alumni group on LinkedIn, maintained by Career Services, boasts the largest cross section of alumni and is the perfect place to advertise job openings and recruit Reedies. Move over Craigslist and Couchsurfing, the interactive bulletin board called “Reed Switchboard” connects current students with alumni in their pursuit of internships, job advice, life advice, and/or a couch for a night or two.

Benefits of membership
Reed's alumni association is the organization of all Reed alumni (note the Latin terms). You are eligible to be a member if you earned at least seven units in a degree-seeking program at Reed. Whether you live in the Portland area or happen to be visiting, you may use various campus facilities and resources when you show an alumni association ID card. See the scoop on sports center use below.
News & Events
If you live elsewhere, you will receive news about alumni association events in your area (please keep your mailing address up to date in IRIS so that we know what "your area" is!). Thirsty Third Thursday takes place in various cities across the country, so check out the map each month (especially if you travel frequently!). No matter where you live, nor which grad year you affiliate with, all are invited to Reunions each June!
All alumni receive, free of charge, the quarterly Reed magazine and ReediEnews, our electronic newsletter, and have access to our online alumni directory.
All alumni who use the sports center must present a current alumni association ID card and sign in at the cage. Alumni ID cards may be obtained at our office in Greywood, by calling 503/777-7589, or via email at alumni@reed.edu. When signing in, alumni are requested to identify the specific area (e.g., weight room, swimming pool, squash courts) that they intend to use.
During the academic year (when classes are in session), the facility is reserved for student use only (e.g., alumni not allowed) during the following peak hours: Monday through Friday, 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, 12-4 p.m. (weight room only).
The sports center is part of the educational institution and our classes and programs take priority in the facility, thus, alumni are requested to relinquish the use of any athletic equipment or space should they be asked. The center is unable to accommodate guests and family members of alumni.
