Into the Streets
![]() |
Into the Streets is a day of service designed to foster a sense of community of service, and to motivate students to volunteer on a regular basis. To this end, several exciting projects are organized covering as wide a range of social issues as possible, in order to accommodate more people's areas of interest and concern.

Community Development: Helping to End Hunger at the Oregon Food Bank
Join the Community Development Into the Streets Trip with SEEDS intern Leslie Loy to the Oregon Food Bank and work alongside other volunteers as we repack pounds of food to be distributed to people who are hungry. This day will be a critical packing day since it is right before the Thanksgiving holiday. We will also be touring the facility and learning more about how hunger issues measure in Oregon and how local communities and statewide agencies are working to remedy these issues. We will meet for lunch in GCC-BC at 11:45 am and return by 4:00 PM.
Environmental Service: Urban Organic Farming at Zenger Farm
Join SEEDS Environmental Intern Michael Reisor and head to Zenger Farm to build an herb spiral, do some farm clean-up and work on other awesome fall projects. There will even be a potluck to follow! This is a great opportunity to have a good time with some new people before Thanksgiving break. If you have not gotten to be "one with the earth" since you have been in the Reed bubble, this is one of your last chances this semester. We will meet in GCC-BC at 11:45 am for lunch and return to Reed by 5:30 pm after the potluck dinner.
Growing Gardens: Building Garden Beds and Community
Come along with project leader Ethan Knudson and other excited volunteers to Northeast Portland to build about twenty-two garden beds at the Los Jardines apartment complex with the non-profit organization Growing Gardens. We will be double-digging and sheet mulching to prepare beds that will decompose in time for spring planting. Rain or shine, expect to meet active Portlanders and overeager children. Many members of the complex primarily speak Spanish, so Español is a plus. As always, we will enjoy a tasty and hearty lunch from SEEDS on-site. NOTE: This trip will leave from the vans at 9 AM, so please plan on arriving by 8:50 AM and returning mid-afternoon.
Free Geek: Take revenge on your computer
Free Geek refurbishes computers to give to non-profits and people in need. Join SEEDS intern Kelsey Lucas to help in the recycling center taking apart computers and accessories. No tech skills are needed! We will meet for lunch in GCC-BC at 11:45 am and return by 4:30 PM.
