Working Weekend

WW13

February 1, 2, and 3, 2013, Reed College Campus

Last February, led by alumnus Adam Riggs '95, in partnership with career services and alumni & parent relations, with campus-wide support, 82 alumni ventured back to Reed with one mission: help current students and new grads get a leg up in career fields, jobs, and internships. They held 10 panels on a range of subjects, all of which focused on how participants made the transition from college to career. They offered one:one meetups, mentorship, advice, and opportunities. Several students emerged from Working Weekend with jobs after graduation. Others met future internship hosts.

In addition to panels, a group of entrepreneurially-focused alumni hosted Reed StartUp Lab, a three-day intensive startup incubator for students interested in moving their ideas beyond conception to reality.

This year, Working Weekend is back with more panels, another round of Reed StartUp, more one:one meetups and a new feature: Radio Bootcamp. You are invited to join us. Please read on!

WWPanels

All Working Weekend panels take place on Saturday, February 2 starting at 9 a.m. and running until 5:15 p.m. Each panel has one moderator and three additional panelists. Each session lasts 75 minutes with plenty of time for discussion and Q&A. Click through to see panel details.

RSUL

Reed StartUp is organized to help entrepreneurially minded Reedies with great ideas to meet those with great skills to help make the ideas real. Last spring, seven teams formed and the winning team, Simple Emotion, went on to recently receive funding from the Portland SEED Fund at Portland State. The second place winner was subsequently hired by globesherpa as a result of his work with Reed StartUp. Read on for how YOU can be a part of this year's StartUp competition.

RBC

Robert Smith '89, NPR's New York correspondent is bringing a couple of friends and conducting a radio bootcamp for up to ten current Reedies. This three-day intensive experiential learning opportunity requires an application, detailed on the linked page. If you want to learn what makes a good story, how to pursue it, record it, edit it and present it, then Radio Bootcamp is worth the effort to apply!

1:1 MeetUps

At the end of the day on Saturday just before we all circle 'round in the SU for a party, here's your opportunity for a high energy fast paced schmoozing opportunity. One:one sessions that last just ten minutes will abound in the SU. You'll have an opportunity beforehand to make contact with alumni who are participating. Just let them know you'd like to chat with them, and in this hour-long pre-party party, meet three or four of five alumni and come away with contacts, referrals, and connections. THEN enjoy your evening with visiting alumni & parents whom you heard earlier in the day on panels and just want to get to know.
